Adam Northup, Executive director

Adam Northup is Executive Director at Opportunity Virginia. In addition, Adam leads product innovation & development, strategy formulation, and capability advancement efforts as Senior Vice President, Financial Strategist at LOCUS Impact Investing and its parent Virginia Community Capital. 

Before LOCUS and VCC, Adam served as Divisional CFO for Capital One's Commercial Real Estate business and Commercial Bank operations. Prior to joining Capital One, he worked in finance and consulting across a range of industries including retail, telecommunications, and the legal field.

Adam holds a B.A. in History and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. He lives and involves himself deeply in his hometown of Richmond, VA. Adam loves to take on home projects and dabble in art.  He is an outdoor enthusiast who currently enjoys competing in bike racing, triathlons, and running events across the country.

Rebecca Richardson, Director of Project Development

Becca Richardson is Director of Project Development at Opportunity Virginia. Becca is responsible for providing education, tools, project identification support and capital stacking guidance for local community, business and economic development leaders.

Becca has spent her 15-year career in the financial services industry, from private equity to municipal bonds compliance and mutual funds. She has a B.A. in Economics from Barnard College of Columbia University and lives in Richmond with her wife and two children.

Jay Beekman, Director of Investments

Jay Beekman is Director of Investments at Opportunity Virginia. In this role, Jay is responsible for engaging with the investor community, assisting with transaction analysis and structuring, and connecting capital sources to impactful Opportunity Zone projects throughout the Commonwealth.

Prior to Opportunity Virginia, Jay was Director of Finance & Strategy at TDBBS and an investment banker at Harris Williams & Co., where he advised public and private companies on mergers, acquisitions, and capital-raising transactions across a range of industries. He began his career lending to small and middle-market businesses at City National Bank.

Jay has a B.A. in History and Hispanic Studies from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia. He lives in Richmond with his wife and golden retriever.

Valerie Lee, Director of Marketing

Valerie Lee is Director of Marketing at Opportunity Virginia. Valerie’s responsibilities include communicating Opportunity Virginia’s mission and impact, organizing events, and managing its website and day-to-day marketing activities.

Prior to Opportunity Virginia, Valerie’s professional marketing and business development experience has included roles with marketing firms, media corporations, and college athletics. Her diverse background has afforded her the ability to develop effective marketing strategies that appeal to audiences of all shapes and sizes.

Valerie has undergraduate degrees in marketing and management from Virginia Tech. She lives in Richmond with her boyfriend and two dogs.
